Uncle Billy's Birthday
When it was time for William's birthday, I had been looking at a lot of blogs and finally started checking out pinterest, and I decided that I wanted to do a theme party. I found a cake that I wanted to make first, and from there I drew my inspiration. Almost everything that I did is an idea from one blog or another, but I don't really remember where I got the ideas, so I'm sorry, but I can't give them credit!! The theme that I went with is "CANDY!"
It was such a blast. Here is a picture of the cake:
Yep! That's a cake! I know it looks like a candy bowl, but there is cake in there! William kept eating the M&Ms out of it, 'cause I couldn't convince him it was a cake! I must say though, this is definitely the MOST SUGARY CAKE EVER!!! Not that that is necessarily a bad thing. But you have to realize, when you cut a piece of this cake, you get a full kitkat bar, plus a pile of M&Ms (peanut butter, 'cause they are the best!) AND a bunch of cake and icing! It's a bit much! :) But I would totally make it again! It was delicious!
See...There really is cake in there!!
The other decorations that I made were just as fun! I wanted the whole house to be reminiscent of a candy shop, so I made candies hanging from the ceiling (balloons in cellophane), bright paper chains, bowls of candy, and cute little jars filled with jelly beans and the letters spelling out his name (Totally using that idea again!- So easy and so cute!)
The last thing that I did, I got from a friend, and I'm pretty sure she told me that she saw it on a blog (haha, that's how the blogging world goes, right?) It's a chain of pictures of William's life. The one I saw was for a first birthday, so she had pictures starting from birth through to present day, but with William's I just took random pictures of what I had (most were with nieces and nephews because those are what most of his recent pics are of!) There were also some fun pictures of when we were all really little. William was anywhere from 2-6 in those pictures. Before he left, I gave him an album and we pulled the pictures down and put them into the album as his gift to take home.
It was a really pleasant night. William brought two of his friends down with him and they were absolutely fabulous as well! My Mom and Dad came over and all of us had a great time being together. I love birthday parties, I love being with family, celebrating life and giving encouragement to keep going. That's what birthdays are all about. A celebration of the past, a party for today and encouragement to keep pushing, keep learning, keep moving forward.
Happy Birthday William!
