My Home and Native Land

Well in half an hour it will officially be Canada Day. I love all the excitement around Canada Day. The family barbeques, the fireworks the parties, but before we get to all of that, I want to take some time to just appreciate the wonderful country that I live in.
I really feel like I was born here for a reason. It's not a coincidence to live in this marvelous land, or the special corner of it that I live in. I was put here for a reason. I enjoy freedoms that some people can't even imagine. There is nothing to stop me here. I am free to speak as I like, dress as I like, go where I like, worship as I like, I have the freedom to raise my children with very little interference from the government (not so with friends and family opinions, but I can tolerate those!) I attended amazing schools where I was encouraged to explore who I am as a person and test boundaries. My children have those same privileges and it warms my heart to see them grow up in a land that has so many opportunities and freedoms. I am so grateful for all of my ancestors who have fought all kinds of battles to come to Canada. To understand that the choices in their lives, though difficult, were for the better and would provide the very best opportunities for their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
I truly am blessed to live in such an amazing country where I can be the very best me that I can be. Thank you Father in Heaven for giving me this opportunity and help me to live worthy of it and use it as you would want me to.

  1. Jennifer thank you for reminding me of the reasons why I love Canada so very much. I love Canada so very much! And I thank my husband for bringing me back to our little corner of the world which you mentioned.
I know Canadians are somewhat more reserved when it comes to showing National pride. I love it when we stand and sing O'Canada with vigor and strength. I watch a lot of sports, and you know our athletes are proud to be from Canada. Our freedoms have allowed them to go places to do their sports where other teams were not allowed. I remember when hockey was only played amongst Canada and the United States. And I remember when Russia finally came into the hockey world.
So much for hockey. I love Canada -- I could not live anywhere else. I am so grateful my ancestors from England and Germany chose to come to this glorious land. May we always be "strong and free".
