The Things I Miss

Working for Vivint. has been great for our family. There are so many wonderful opportunities open to us that we wouldn't have had before Michael started working for this company. But there are also some things that I miss about Cardston summers.
We have a fire pit in our back yard, and during the summer we like to have at least one fire per week-generally more. It's the easiest dinner that everyone enjoys and it provides a great opportunity for some real family time.
The first summer that we had our fire pit, we bought a case of wieners, thinking that it would last us the whole summer....we bought it in May and it was gone in July! I guess we like the wienie roasts a little too much!

One of the great things about the fire pit is that it has taught our kids a respect for fire. They understand fire safety and they certainly know how to make their own meals over a fire - simple meals, but meals none the less.

I also miss my time with friends and family. We very often have people over for wienie roasts during the summer. We've done them for baptisms, blessings, birthday parties, Easter, family reunions, and just because. It seems like every body relaxes and opens up over a fire (and I don't mean that in a torture way!).

I also miss having a place to be outside. When we are home, we spend hours outside in our yard. We garden, we lounge, we play soccer, wash the car, draw on the sidewalk and just enjoy our yard. One of the things that I loved about our house when we first bought it was the yard. We have a large yard - huge compared to a lot of the yards in the city! It allows us a full garden, complete with Rhubarb and Raspberry bushes, an apple tree and a chokecherry tree. Our trees don't produce very well since Michael took out all the wasp nests, but some things are worth it! Until this year, we have always been in apartments, so we haven't really had anywhere to go outside unless you want the whole complex staring at you!

The next thing that I miss is all the community events that happen while we are away. This is the first year that we have been a part of the Cardston Kids Marathon (Apparently the largest kids marathon in Canada - cool eh?). It was so cool to be a part of it, and I miss these kinds of small town activities. I haven't been to party in the park (Cardston's Canada Day Celebration) in years, or seen the fireworks here. I missed my high school reunion, and the Heritage Day Parade and pancake breakfasts. I haven't seen summer theatre in years either. For such a small town, we have A LOT going for us!
I miss the swimming pools out here. This is actually the Raymond pool, they put in a new one several years back and this week was the first time that I was able to get to it. I love the Cardston pool as well. It's not that there haven't been pools in the cities that we have gone to, but here my kids can walk down to the pool every day and they see their friends there as well as our family. Here David is swimming with Alaya (Sorry don't know the spelling) and Serina (William's girlfriend). It's just not quite the same being somewhere else, although I must say, the ocean last year was pretty dang neat!
But probably the thing that I miss the most is my family and friends. When I'm at home I do crop club (which we have started again- yay!), and I spend time with my family and friends doing all the little things that don't seem to matter, but when you don't have them for several summers, they are important. I'm really excited to spend more time at home this summer. It does mean that I'm sacrificing time with my husband, which is a real challenge for me, but I hope that the time with other family members will be worth it. And so far I haven't missed much time with him that I would have been able to have anyway, so hopefully that will remain the trend for most of the summer, 'cause all in all, I love his job and the freedom that it affords us. The things we get to see and do and the people that we meet. But these are the things that I miss.
