Blessings
So...have you ever looked in your closet and thought..."I have nothing to wear."
Absolutely Nothing.
I think that all the time. I've done all my laundry two days earlier, but my favourite shirt is already worn and back in the laundry and I don't feel like wearing anything else, so clearly... I have nothing to wear.
Well, the next time that you feel that way, try not doing any laundry for two weeks then doing all of it in the course of two days. Trust me, you will feel like you have TONNES of clothes!
I'm sure the other six people in my family contribute to that mountain of laundry that I am almost through, again, but seriously....a couple of weeks ago I was thinking, "man I need to buy some clothes!" now I'm thinking "really, I need to get rid of stuff!"
The truth is, now that I bought a couple of new shirts that fit nicely, I'm probably good. No, I don't LOVE everything in my wardrobe. Not all of it fits fantastically and makes me look or feel like a million bucks, and it's definitely not designer anything (can we say Wal-mart, Target and Old Navy???) but each day I have a few things to pick from. I can dress up or dress down, I have sweats and skirts and tees. Sure, there are a few things that I could use to complete my wardrobe, but I don't NEED anything. In fact, it's a blessing that I have as many clothes as I do have. What a blessing to be able to change my clothes each day and put on fresh new clothes. I can do my laundry once a week (that is the typical routine!) and still have clean clothes left to wear at the end of the week.
So, while I don't love that I have about four loads of laundry waiting to be folded, one in the washer and one in the dryer, as well as about four more to wash...(just when we finally finished the last of the laundry, it was laundry day again!)...I'm grateful for the lesson that this mountain of laundry has taught me. I am blessed. Blessed to live in a country where I can pick my wardrobe. Blessed to have the means to acquire, launder and store so much clothing. Blessed to be able to provide those same blessings to my children.
The next time I look at my mountain of laundry and think "here we go again. Another never ending, unsatisfying chore" (hmm, every Tuesday...) I will try to remind myself,
"I am blessed".
My children are blessed. God is good.
And thank heavens I'm not washing it by hand!
Love laundry day.
