We did it.
I did it.
I can't believe it. But she asked me to. And she waited.
And waited.
And got more and more excited while she waited.
Then I told her right after family pictures. She had a date. Something to look forward to. A time when it would finally happen.
Then it rained, and family pictures were postponed. And it kept raining. So we picked a new date. Once again, she had a date.
So we took family pictures. As soon as we were done, she asked again. So I figured she must be serious. I got everything ready and asked her one more time. "After this there is no turning back. Are you ready?" She was ready.
We cut her hair. Off.
Like really. Not a trim. We cut it OFF.
But that wasn't enough. She still wanted more.
So I grabbed the clippers. And we went shorter.
We went even shorter. Scarey.
Looks like she's maybe thinking twice, eh? Maybe this wasn't such a good idea.
Nope. She just didn't like the feel of the clippers around her ears.
She wanted to keep going.
We went to the medicine cabinet. To Dad's side. And pulled out the shaving cream. And the razor.
She was thrilled. Peter and Heather watched. Heather got more and more anxiety.
But she loved every minute of it.
My little girl, who has always had beautiful long hair. Hair that was beautifully straight, but held curl so easily and for so long. Hair that I have braided and put in ponytails, brushed and washed....
....is gone. We shaved it all off.
And she absolutely loves it!
She's such a beautiful girl, and she looks great. Totally has the right shaped head for it, just like I suspected. As far as I know, she hasn't regretted it for a minute. There are a lot of people that think she's crazy (mostly older people). A lot of people think I'm crazy for letting her. But this is what she wanted. She wanted something different. She thought about it for a long time. Looked forward to being able to do it. And now that it's done, she loves it. Feels pride in her bare head. And really, what's a little hair? It will grow back. No matter what she does to it, she can always "undo" it in some sense. It's not permanent. And that's our deal. Do anything with your hair. But don't EVER get a tattoo or extra piercings.
I've held up to my side. Here's hoping she holds up to hers.
I love you, kid!
