O Be Weiss, What Can I Say More

a bunch of the family waiting to start a get to know you game
We had our Weiss family reunion mid July. I LOVE family reunions, I mean I REALLY LOVE them. I love seeing how people change and how families grow, I love watching all the grand kids and great grand kids play. I love to see people connect like it hasn't been two years since they last saw each other. I love the reminiscing and the stories that are told (This year I learned about my aunt driving the car into the house with my mom in it - my mom was like a year old and my aunt six. Then later that day, my grandma rolled the car with both kids in it -neither in a seat belt of course- and miraculously, no one was hurt more than scratches!) I also love the feelings that are there, everyone is happy and helpful and really interested in everyone else's life. Not in the "I just love gossip" kind of way, but genuinely interested.
More of the line!

If you don't have family reunions like this, I'm genuinely sad for you. That's unfortunate. I love my family reunions.
So this year our family reunion was in Calgary, which was nice and close to home. My aunt put together a BRILLIANT reunion. It was the perfect mix of scheduled time and free time, super fun games and fabulous food. We did an amazing race, which was really neat and took us to places of significance to family members (So clever!) and had a fantastic family auction. The auction is actually where I got my title from - my cousin brought the saying on a plaque (My uncle out bid me for it, I seriously wanted it!).

I also stayed up way too late EVERY night, playing games and swimming with my cousins. It used to be that the Weisses only played Rook when they got together, but as the grandkids are all getting older, we have started bringing other games. I've been introduced to some of my favourite games at family reunions. Last time we learned "BANG" and this time it was "Crazy sixes???" I can't remember for sure if that's the name of it. It's a blitz game, and it's great.
My mom made a really neat quilt for the auction, it was inspired by my father's day shirts that I do for my husband every year (I've tried other gifts and he just gets sad that he didn't get a shirt!), I helped her figure out exactly how to do it, and then helped put it all together at the reunion. It turned out great! Once again I was outbid at the auction though - My aunt (The fantastic car driver!) got that one from me. We had everyone that was there put their handprint on it with fabric paint and then we labeled them so that we could see who all was there. So cute!
I can't get over the little kids at this reunion. My uncle crunched the numbers and found out that Zac is the 80th person added to our family!! Crazy! And we have a wedding next month and three babies on the way, so we're not even close to being done! I love it!

So this may not be the most eloquent post, but I just love my family and it was so awesome to see all of them again. I had a great time, I was nervous because I took my two little boys on my own, but my parents were amazingly helpful and I wasn't stressed at all. It was one of the best weeks of the summer! My mom even consented to sit in the back so that I didn't have to crawl in and out to deal with car seats! What a good sport!
